John Nelson has always loved the Pacific Northwest and for over 25 years he has shared his passion with others to create a unique and one of a kind dining experience. His menus include fresh seafood, natural beef, organic produce and eco friendly libations, brews and wines…all from local producers. Chef Nelson loves to share his stories and love of northwestern cuisine and appears frequently on local television and radio. The grandson of Swedish immigrants, John was raised in the commercial fishing industry on the north Oregon coast while living on a dairy farm. As a self-described "dock rat," John was exposed at an early age to all types of cultures and cooking though it was the Asian culture that made the deepest impression on our chef today. John lives in Bend, Oregon with his wife and three children but whether cooking at home or in his restaurant, his inspiration comes from his upbringing. Chef Nelson tells me he is excited to bring us all the great things the Northwest has to offer…in a way only a true dyed in the wool northwesterner could…so, let's bring it on-allow me to present, Chef John Nelson, our dyed in the wool northwestern chef…the stage, or rather…kitchen is all yours!

Re: Chef John Nelson
I have had the experience of eating at many of Chef John's eating establishments. Recently several of my co-workers along with myself had the opportunity to eat at the Brasada Resort in Bend, OR.
As usual, Chef John hit it just right with delicious hors d'oeuvres, entrees, and desert. Although I don't hit the bottle anymore, my comrades said the wine selection was tops!
Thanks again Chef John for a wonderful time at Brasada.
Re: Chef John Nelson
Chef John Nelson was my old neighbor that lived across the street from me on Lewis & Clark Road for over 19+ years in Astoria Oregon. My family and I have always adored his father and mother while living next door to them.
John Nelson is the nicest person you will ever meet. John even took me duck hunting one time, and we never even cooked that poor little duck. John was a great friend to me and a big brother who always protected me. John drove me to our high school everyday until he graduated from Warrenton High School in 1984.
The Sanctuary restaurant that John and his mother Joanne opened up in Washington, was always enjoyed by my family for many years. The food was unbelievable.
I was sorry I have lost contact with him over the years, but am so proud of him and his success for having such a great passion for cooking.
Re: Chef John Nelson
John was one of my highschool friends. I was always a bit jealous of the girls that liked him and not me. He is one of the nicest people I've met in my life. One of the greatest meals I've ever eaten was at his restaurant called the Sanctuary. Aside from it being so extraordinarily delicious he wouldn't even let me pay for it.
I didn't know about his most recent restaurant but I can say I will plan a trip there as soon as possible. I'm sure it is incredible.
